During the Writers Strike of 2007-08, Joss Whedon, (then known for creating Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel) along with his brothers Zack and Jed and Maurissa Trancharoen wrote a musical which they planned to release on the internet. This way they were still getting there creative juices out and keeping things still very professionally done, all while still staying faithful the the Writers Guild’s movement.
Dr. Horrible is a story about a man (played by Neil Patrick Harris) who wants to be the baddest supervillain the world has ever seen trying to become a member of the ‘Evil League of Evil’ headed by Bad Horse! In his way is Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion), who stops and regularly beats the piss out of him any time he’s trying to commit a crime. And right in the middle of it all is Penny (Felecia Day). She’s the love of Dr. Horrible’s life, but is smitten by Captain Hammer and his heroics.
You can probably see where this is going. Or can you??
The songs in the small movie are excellent, very well put together and often quite hilarious. ‘Brand New Day’ is exceptional!
Anyway, recently, at the public library, I came across and read the Dr. Horrible and other horrible stories Graphic Novel which acts like a lead in to the actual show, which made me want to watch it again and share it with you all! It is a touch over 40 minutes long, so make a cup of tea and get a little snack and kick back and enjoy.
